This world that we live in today is a crazy place. Things have truly gone from bad to worse. Government is chaotic, racism is alive and well, and sex trafficking is at an all time high. No matter where you look, nothing seems to be safe anymore. People are even being shot in churches! This is a very frightening world to raise children in, yet we are required as parents to do our very best to raise productive citizens amidst the chaos that surrounds them. Our household has decided that we will not just produce good citizens, but game changers.
My husband and I want our children to not just be productive citizens, but to be willing to change their surroundings. As parents, we all want what’s best for our kids. Being the best them they can be means teaching them to be leaders and not followers. To be willing to go against what they see every day as normal, and to be different. One way to start that is by teaching children to be kind. While it seems like a small thing, kindness goes along way. How many stories of children committing suicide do we see now due to bullying? How many times have you been cut off while driving or blocked from getting into a lane in traffic? How many times have you asked a legitimate question and received a snarky response? There is not enough kindness in our world today and teaching our next generation to care for others as they do for themselves is the only way things will begin to change. No matter what your religious belief may be, loving your neighbor is an absolute must! Sticking up for people who are being bullied and choosing to make the right decision when facing peer pressure even if it means being alone are things we have to instill in this up and coming generation. We have a huge responsibility to demonstrate love to the unlovable, to be kind to those who don’t look like us or don’t vote like us, to help the less fortunate. And not just because we have to, but because we want to. This is the only way that we can ensure that our beautiful babies will grow up to be their best selves. To be better than we were, and to change our sick, sad world!
