So allow me to begin this post by stating I love being a mom. I love my children with all my heart and no matter what, I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. With that being said, there are just a few things that I used to be able to do prior to having children that I miss a little…like sleeping for example.
When my husband and I first got married, we would get up on Saturday mornings, eat breakfast, then crawl back into bed and sleep for a few more hours. I currently can’t remember the last time I slept until 7 a.m.! Or eating hot food. I don’t even know what that taste like anymore. Once upon a time, I’d cook dinner or we’d go out and I got to eat my food right away…by myself! No one stuck their hands in my plate or begged me to share what was on it!
But I can not leave out my person favorite, using the restroom alone. Before I had children I could pee, poop and even shower without interruption. I mean seriously, do you know how hard it is to poop with a one year old trying to climb in your lap? Since when did my toilet become a rocking chair? And heaven forbid I shower long enough to shave my legs! The peanut gallery becomes very noisy very quickly.
While all of these things are minor, and do not compare to the joy that I have when I’m with my children, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all from time to time. So to my dear friend sleep, those were the days. You may be gone, but not forgotten. Hot food, until we meet again, maybe in another few years? And restroom, well maybe we’ll get together without an audience sometime within the next decade. Until then my friends, we will always have the memories of the way we were…
